Full Job Description

  • Develop a BDM Strategic Account plans for the Area to set clear objectives by member and category monitored and measured through constant weekly, monthly and quarterly CRM activity.

  • Establish regular account management contact and visiting schedules for existing Platinum and Gold members supported by co-ordinating internal activity for silver and bronze members to ensure consistent service level across all members.

  • Exceed the monthly area turnover budget in each 12 month period including the minimum number of new members recruited from the budgeted targeted pipeline plan.


  • Existing members
  • Successfully manage and grow account ledgers - driven to move members through the value chain (silver to gold, gold to platinum etc) by growing penetration of IBC Buying Group deals.

  • Own the member experience co-ordinated face to face, remote and digital touchpoints to drive engagement and growth hitting Area KPI's.

  • Utilise key supplier product portfolios against members requirements, ensuring members are aware of product ranges, targeting sales campaigns, ability to source product while ensuring visibility.

  • Ability to add value bringing suppliers and members together to create commercial opportunities for IBC.

  • Identify services opportunities within members as part of the role and work with Internal member sales to grow existing members procurement of Buying group services.

  • Ability to upsell the USPs (value) of IBC membership, maintenance of minimum margins and not be reliant on pricing as the framework.

    Excellent record keeping skills with the primary criteria being quality and accuracy.

  • Good organisational skills and be able to prioritise workload based on agreed criteria with the Head of Business Development.

  • High level area planning to secure maximum member facing time with a maximum of one day per week for preparation, administration, and reporting.

  • Excellent IT skills and able to use Microsoft Office systems/databases and CRM system.

  • Excellent customer service skills, ability to communicate effectively and promptly both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to work on own initiative and part of a team with minimal supervision to achieve targets, reporting and other deadlines.

  • Maintaining knowledge of building products and services through regular product training.

  • Attending industry events where required with members and suppliers to build relationships between member and supplier as part of growing their procurement of Buying group deals.

  • Demonstrable success in developing existing or potentially high spending customer to achieve their maximum potential spend.


  • Experience / Qualifications
  • Stable and progressive carer to date ideally within the building products or related sectors.

  • Sound building supplies knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the sector is essential

  • Previous sales experience in a builder's merchant or similar environment

  • Comfortable covering a large geographical area which will include overnight stays when applicable.

  • Educational qualifications of a minimum of 2 "A" Level passes at grade A - C or Degree, preferably including English and/or Maths

    In order to capitalise on IBC's success to date, this new appointment will join our existing team of BDM professional in the South and Midlands in reporting to the Head of BDM's, and will be a key driver in furthering the consortiums membership and success within the region and ultimately across the UK.
