Cancer Alliances are unique. We are the primary vehicle for delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan ambitions for cancer and improvements in cancer performance. We need a business manager to design and operate our business strategies and manage our day-to-day operations, to enable successful delivery of the ambitions of the Long-Term Plan for Cancer.

Please note provisional interview date of 12 June 2024, and interviews to be held in Bristol or Taunton., In association with and under the overall direction of the Operational Manager and in liaison with other senior staff, the post holder will be responsible for providing comprehensive business and operational support for SWAG Cancer Alliance.
You will work as part of the senior management team delivering an efficient and effective Business Management Service, supporting our team and stakeholders to ensure that their work stream of activities is planned and managed effectively assisting in their successful delivery.

Working for our organisation
Cancer Alliances were established in 2016, following the recommendations of the Independent Cancer Taskforce. The Taskforce recognised the need for capacity and leadership for delivering improvements to cancer services, much of which had been lost following an overhaul of the former cancer networks in 2013.
There are now 21 Cancer Alliances, responsible for leading the planning and delivery of cancer services and for leading work across their local system to: speed up cancer pathways, diagnose cancer earlier and improve survival, improve patient experience and quality of life, and reduce health inequalities in cancer services.
Somerset, Wiltshire, Avon and Gloucestershire Cancer Alliance (SWAG CA) constituent ICBs are Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG); Somerset; Gloucestershire; Bath, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW).
SWAG CA is hosted by North Bristol NHS Trust for the purposes of formal employment and the provision of back-office support to the Cancer Alliance.
The post holder is hybrid working with a minimum of 40% office based within the SWAG CA geography.
The post holder will be required to travel across the South West.

1. Play a leading role in the overall business and operational management of the Cancer Alliance.
2. Enhance SWAG Cancer Alliance patient experience and outcomes by helping to deliver efficient and responsive business and operational management.
3. Work with the senior management team, NHS England Regional Assurance Team and the National Cancer Programme Team to ensure the objectives of the Long-Term Plan for Cancer are achieved through strong leadership and clear direction.
4. Ensure the efficient and effective use of resources, in particular effective financial management.
5. Assist with the planning and assurance/reporting processes.
6. Monitor and report performance against the Cancer Alliance plan, particularly delivery of objectives financial plan and other targets and advise the Managing Director of variances and actions necessary to deliver the plan.
7. Proactively devise and provide improvements to current management information, analysing, reporting, and suggesting procedures to enhance decision making processes.
8. Maintain the Cancer Alliance website, develop and implement the communications plan including annual reports and newsletters.
9. Provide line management for the support function within the team (administrative staff).
10. Provide managerial non-clinical liaison with external partners including ICB Cancer Leads and commercial companies and other Cancer Alliance counterparts.
11. Monitor and participate in budget setting, performance and review.
12. Provision of accurate information to the Finance Department, which is highly complex in nature.
13. Produce regular audit reports on SWAG CA activity providing accurate information to support the development and monitoring of contracts and service level agreements. This will include processing highly complex and sensitive information in order to produce reports for communication within and outside the department.
14. Maintain clear strategic direction for the Cancer Alliance that is consistent with the overall objectives of Cancer Alliances.
15. Develop business cases, funding bids templates and processes, etc as necessary for the development of ICB cancer plans.
16. Attend meetings as appropriate for business and planning purposes to secure resources.
17. Contribute to the development and achievement of the cancer alliance objectives including support of systems integral to the cancer alliance.
18. Manage the cancer alliance asset register.
19. Liaise with the IM&T Department to ensure that the cancer alliance optimises the use of new technologies.
20. Manipulate information using MS access, MS Excel etc and present data (verbal and written) using these software packages and others MS Word, MS PowerPoint etc.
21. Ensure that a high level of personal professionalism and competence is maintained.
22. Participate in annual appraisal and development review in line with Trust polices.
23. Attend local and national meetings on behalf of the cancer alliance as appropriate.

24. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, to enable the post holder to communicate to a wide range of audiences both internal and external.
