Full Job Description

The Critical Care Outreach Team (CCOT) offers intensive care skills to patients with, or at risk of, critical illness in areas outside of the critical care unit. We provide a 24 hour, 7 day a week service reviewing patients throughout the hospital.

The team consists of Band 6 nurses with a band 7 team leader and clinical supervision provided by the Clinical Lead consultant for CCOT.

We respond to all patients reaching trigger thresholds for NEWS2 scoring in line with national guidance, attend cardiac arrests and medical emergencies as part of the arrest team, and review all patients stepped down from ICU/HDU.

Our goal is to improve patient outcomes through early recognition and response to deterioration, reduce length of stay, avoid adverse events such as cardiac arrest, and prevent admission / readmission to critical care.

As part of the CCOT you will be responsible for providing high quality nursing support and care to all acutely unwell adult patients within Airedale Hospital.

You will:
Work in collaboration with medical and allied health professionals to provide safe, equitable and high quality care for all acutely unwell, critically ill and recovering patients on a 24-hour shift basis across the Trust.

Review all patients stepped down from the ICU/HDU in a timely fashion to ensure they are progressing and prevent readmission

Undertake advanced clinical skills following appropriate training such as arterial blood gas sampling, ECG, IV drug administration via CVAD etc,

Attend adult cardiac arrest and medical emergency calls, utilising ALS skills appropriately

Provide support with NIV and High Flow oxygen therapy

Recognise and respond appropriately to incidences of sepsis in line with national guidance

Participate in the delivery of local training courses

We are always looking for enterprising and innovative approaches to the way we provide our services. We are a national centre for telemedicine and introduced telehealth to the UK offender healthcare sector and also provide the service to patients in their care homes. Community matters to us and we are supported by 400 dedicated volunteers and have strong links with Bradford University, Craven College and Leeds City College to ensure we inspire the workforce of the future.

We want to attract staff who embrace our 'Right Care' behaviours of compassion, a commitment to quality of care and working together for patients - we want to make these part of our DNA.
