Full Job Description

This varied and busy role will see you provide process and scientific support to our water recycling centres in the north of our region.

This role offers a mixture of office and field-based work and will see you travel around the region. You will be provided with a car allowance to cover the cost of your travel., We treat 888 million litres of sewage from 2.9 million customers, and our Scientists help ensure that we comply with all regulatory requirements and there is no detrimental impact on the environment through our operations.

Within the northern Science team, you will be assisting Area Process Scientists and the local Operations team.

As a Development Process Scientist, you will help ensure compliance with quality standards at water recycling centres, including numerical, descriptive, flow and waste permits.

Applying your scientific knowledge, you will assist in the planning and delivery of measures to improve compliance, reduce operational costs and minimise pollutions.

Additionally, you will be involved with the following:

  • monitoring the effectiveness of sewage treatment processes

  • assisting the Area Process Scientists with their work

  • providing process support during operational issues

  • providing technical support to operational staff to protect and maintain quality

  • liaising with various internal and external stakeholders, including the Environment Agency.

    If you have experience working in the water industry or environmental sector, we want to hear from you., To succeed in this role, you will hold a basic knowledge of sewage treatment processes and environmental law, as well as a degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.


  • We would like someone who is extremely organised and able to collate, analyse and present scientific data. You are going to be joining a very welcoming and supportive team.

    You'll need to be able to build professional and supportive relationships with your colleagues, as well as being able to confidently engage and influence various internal stakeholders.

    In addition, you will have:
  • IT literacy

  • data analysis skills

  • Microsoft Excel skills to an intermediate level

  • a full UK driving licence.
