Full Job Description

This position resides in the Hardware Domain of the Digital Product Platform (DPP) Technical Centre within Product Engineering. Specifically, the role is an Electronics Design Engineer position as part of the Hardware Electronics Group reporting to the Product Owner.

The role of the Electronics Design Engineer is to engage in the development of electronic products - in this case the development of electronic modules / ECUs.

The Successful candidate will collaborate with stakeholders to provide technical capability and undertake design activities for the module / ECUs design, manufacturing and introduction of electronic modules / ECU's for JLR programmes.

As a Design Engineer, you'll be working as part of a squad responsible for the delivery of electronic modules at JLR, meeting defined targets and attributes (technical and commercial - on cost, quality and time).

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Design and validation of Electrical Modules / ECUs for automotive applications including, component selection, schematics design, PCB layout, design calculation and simulation.

  • Production of detailed design requirements, documentation and specifications for Electronic Modules / ECUs.

  • Design and preparation for manufacturing readiness, volume production and validation.

  • Creation and maintenance of Bill of Design for modules / ECUs.

  • Support Functional Safety, Cyber Security and Failure mode effect analysis of an ECU development with the commodity delivery team.

  • Support the development of the Hardware Design Processes and methodologies, including Electronic Design (Schematic & PCB), Mechanical Design, validation and industrialisation.

  • Support the overall project cadence and ensure transparent communication and escalation through:

  • + Supporting the creation and update of the Module Plan(s)
    + Ensuring successful integration of the component within JLR electrical architecture
  • Deliver the validation plan, confirm parts availability for all stages and ensure cross-functional requirements are integrated in module development.

    Extensive experience of working as an Electronics Engineer - within the Automotive, Aerospace or similar environment.

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering or similar technical qualifications or relevant industry experience.

  • Experience in circuit design and PCB layout from concept to high volume mass production.

  • Experience in design and product validation, certification and compliance testing of an electronics hardware at component level, including board bring up / verification.

  • Have a good understanding of the following (but not limited to): Power supply topologies, interfacing to microcontrollers, power switching, motors, analogue design, digital circuits, EMC, stability analysis, vehicle network hardware, SOIC, high speed serial interfaces.
