4.00 up to. Hours for this role are offered on a casual basis and can be arranged to fit with other commitments., The role is vital in promoting and engaging staff and students with all aspects of laboratory sustainability. You will encourage sustainable behaviours and practices through the implementation of the Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF). Work will include supporting communications activities, undertaking lab audits, LEAF administration and attending network meetings.

Through LEAF, this role will be focusing on supporting sustainable behaviour change in areas such as waste, purchasing, equipment, IT, sample and chemical management, research quality, people, teaching criteria, ventilation, and water use.

You will have experience working in laboratories with an awareness of the various sustainability challenges labs face. At Bath, we have a range of lab types so you should be confident to apply your knowledge in a range of different scenarios. With a keen interest in sustainability, you will contribute to the growth of the LEAF programme at Bath and will identify areas for improvement and propose solutions to the relevant University staff.

This role would be ideally suited to a PhD level student though keen students at other levels of study will be considered.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain a LEAF database of all University of Bath labs.

  • Organise staff and students to conduct audits with labs who have submitted to bronze, silver, or gold LEAF certification.

  • Create communications materials such as writing case studies, emails, and blogs.

  • Coordinate design briefs, where appropriate, to develop resources that will support LEAF implementation in labs.

  • Assist in organising and promoting engagement and communication events, activities, and campaigns.

  • Work with lab users on specific sustainability challenges in labs, helping to troubleshoot and find solutions, or escalate where needed.

  • Role model and encourage staff and other students to engage in lab sustainability initiatives and LEAF.

  • Participate in recruiting more labs and lab users to partake in LEAF.

  • Attend regular LEAF network meetings.

  • Be able to self-motivate and work independently.
