Maintenance Technician

THE ROLE OF MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
Our established and experienced Estates Team hold the key to ensuring our guests have an extraordinary stay and are an integral part of the Gilpin Hotel & Lake House. You will never be bored with the diverse and varied number of tasks undertaken. We have 36 individually styled bedrooms, 21 acres of grounds, gardens and waterways to maintain and hot tubs a plenty, so if you have a keen eye for perfection, are happy to turn your hand to anything, then our site is a never-ending centre of activity.

A Maintenance Technician

• Undertakes repairs to hotel and lodge infrastructure such as; door handles, door locks, light fixtures, door trims, decking boards, flooring, shower surrounds etc.


• Repairs electrical items (not covered under 18th Edition) for instance, changes light bulbs, replaces sockets, changes fuses.


• Repairs to plumbing jobs such as taps, washers, plugs, plumbing timers, hot tub systems (simple fixes).


• Constructs and maintains walls, fences, gates, hedges, paths, drives, patios and surfaces.


• Repairs and maintains the decks around the hot tubs and lodges.


• Responds to maintenance issues in a timely manner and records actions on the system.


• Ensures stock levels are appropriate and replenished as necessary.


• Maintains tools & equipment - ensuring that they are in good condition and reports defects promptly.


• Escalates maintenance issues to the appropriate person when necessary.


• Assists with projects and planned work on the estate where required.


• Takes responsibility for own health and safety and that of others including guests.


• Takes pride in completing jobs to a consistently high standard.


• Maintains a clean, tidy, organised and safe working environment at all times.


• Is presentable at all times in clean pressed uniform (if applicable), with long hair tied back. Attention to personal hygiene is also extremely important., Fantastic subsidised shared staff accommodation, some at the hotel, some in the countryside, and some in the centre of Windermere and Bowness. In all accommodation there is a shared kitchen and lounge area. We spring clean your room before you move in, meet you, show you around, and settle you in with a welcome pack, and check all the accommodation monthly to make sure everything is still lovely. Our staff accommodation ranges from mobile static homes to ensuite rooms in Bowness and Windermere (from £130 to £350 per month including bills). If you're really trying to save and don't have a lot of stuff, there are a few very small mobile static home rooms that we don't charge anything for.
  
  Previous experience in a similar level of establishment is preferred.


• Previous maintenance and estate experience is essential.


• Relevant qualifications in a trade is desirable but not essential.


• Strong teamwork and communication skills to effectively collaborate with other teams on site.


• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as per the demands of the business and is adaptable to rota changes.


• Ability to work as part of a team, helping other team members to complete tasks.


• The ability to adapt to any request and deal with it in a timely and efficient manner - preferably with a smile.


• Ability to work in a busy environment and under pressure


• Ability to work under own initiative


• Excellent organisational skills


• Strong sense of need for achievement of goals and success


• High level of motivation, determination and commitment


• To undertake additional or other duties or work as necessary to meet the needs of the business.


• Good health and a general level of fitness is an essential part of this role.


• Is able to respond to urgent issues in a helpful and calm manner, prioritising guest and staff welfare in the case of an emergency.


• Can act as a First Aid Aider or Fire Warden in the event of an accident or emergency.


To succeed in this role, you should be physically fit and able to manage small and heavy machinery. You'll also be experienced in, or happy to learn, the management of livestock as you'll be responsible for our herd of Alpacas and Llamas., We provide personalised English classes (while you're paid) if you wish to gain confidence and ability to communicate in English. The aim is to motivate and encourage progression here at Gilpin as well as to gain confidence outside of work.
