Full Job Description

The post-holder will provide technical support to maintain and expand all Trust's IT network devices and services. The post holder will be expected to assist the Network Manager with all aspects of day to day network administration as necessary. The post holder will have good IT knowledge gained through experience, will be required to work without supervision and will need to understand the IT infrastructure within the Trust.
Deployed technologies the post holder will initially be working with include Aruba-Alcatel Wifi, Juniper core, Cisco ASA, HP Procurve edge.
Participation in the Department Out-of-hours On-Call rota., Patients first; Ensure IT issues and queries are handled and addressed in a timely manner to ensure the minimum delay to patient care.
Personal Responsibility; Ensure requests, procurements and recharges are handled properly to ensure IT access is kept at requested levels.

Passion for excellence; Ensure a high level of relationship is kept between the IT Helpdesk and users within the trust with regards to approachability, timely responses, prioritised actions and support for the senior engineers., + Provide engineering expertise for the building, configuration, documentation and integration of new IT Network service components (including switches, firewalls, authentication platforms, wireless controllers, access points).
+ Assist with testing new network systems and solutions, including client edge devices.
+ Recommend and implement changes to network infrastructure services to improve capacity and performance, and address potential risks.
+ Proactively assist departments in the development of their IT use in line with clinical requirements and ensuring that good customer facing skills are employed at all times.
Maintenance & Support
+ Assist with monitoring of networking systems for errors, availability, performance, capacity and security threats & vulnerabilities.
+ Assist with providing a proactive engineering response to security & performance issues.
+ Assist with updating and patching of networking devices & systems.
+ Use diagnostic tools and fault finding techniques to diagnose and fix faults and identify root causes.
+ Recommend appropriate solutions and work-arounds, describing the implications for the end customer and for the internal IT and Telecoms teams.
+ Undertake network-related tasks associated with building, deployment, auditing and on-going maintenance of client devices and software.
+ Provide technical support to all users connected to the IT environment.
+ Provide a point of technical escalation and technical support to the IT Service Desk team.
+ Ensure that support requests & support actions are properly logged, assigned and responded to in a timely manner and according to agreed standards and procedures.
+ Maintaining & utilising the IT Service Desk solution, monitoring platforms and Inventory.
+ Assist with documenting all operational processes and procedures for network services.
+ Procurement of IT network equipment as and when required.
+ Uphold Trust technical standards for network services.
+ Ensuring licensing compliance is understood and maintained.
+ Supplement and support Helpdesk agents during busy periods to ensure effectiveness of the team and overall support to the IT and Telecoms teams.
Leadership
+ Ensure an efficient and proactive customer service is in place.
+ Assist the IT Network Manager with coordinating work to the IT Service Desk team.
+ Uphold professional standards and act as advocate for the Department.
+ Point of escalation for the IT Service Desk.
Training and Education
+ Responsible for training IT Service Desk team members.
+ Ensure network-related IT Service Desk team processes and instruction are up-to-date and regularly reviewed with the team.
+ Ensure all Networking support procedures are kept up-to-date and regularly reviewed.
Personal and Professional Development
+ Attend relevant education, training and study days as required.
+ Maintain an awareness of changes to software, hardware and technologies plus potential opportunities to improve the use of technology by the Trust.
+ To participate in internal forums and meetings as required and contribute information in regard to the projects they are involved in.
+ Acquire and maintain detailed knowledge of technologies so that enquiries can be clearly and quickly addressed.
+ Uses judgement in applying guidelines for setting priorities for resolution, monitoring progress, and applying escalation procedures for incidents and problems not progressing satisfactorily.
