Full Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic Physics Technician, to support the Physics Department at Abbey College Cambridge in order to facilitate excellent teaching, by providing an efficient and proactive service for the department.

Your duties and responsibilities will include the following:

· Preparation of equipment, chemicals, and materials for practical lessons.

· Ensure general maintenance (including cleaning and routine repairs) of apparatus and equipment, and basic maintenance of laboratory services and facilities.

· Ensuring appropriate storage of chemicals, materials, and equipment.

· Maintenance of stock levels and stock takes of materials and equipment.

· To assist staff and students in preparation for practical classes, including assembling apparatus and providing technical advice as required.

· Keep up to date with health & safety requirements and developments in practical science.

· Participate in the maintenance to a satisfactory standard of safety and security in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines and assist with carrying out risk assessments as required.

Qualifications and Experience

You will hold A Levels or equivalent qualifications including physics, will have experience of working in a laboratory in a technical support capacity, be experienced in safely preparing, handling and disposal of radioactive materials and be competent in the use of ICT.

A degree level qualification in Physics or a related science, understanding of current health and safety requirements and experience of working in a school setting are desirable but not essential.
