An opportunity has arisen to join the Suffolk County Council (SCC) Growth, Highways and Infrastructure directorate as a Senior Engineer, based in Endeavour House, Ipswich. The role will require working in a mixture of office, site and home-based scenarios.

Your role and responsibilities
Advance your career and hone your professional skills through hands-on experience in this dynamic role.

You'll have the opportunity to develop your highway engineering and planning expertise by providing specialist knowledge and responding to statutory and non-statutory NSIP consultations.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams within SCC and other Local Authorities to review and approve designs, secure Highways Act section 278 and 38 agreements, and ensure holistic highway designs that resolve interdisciplinary tensions.
Leverage your negotiation skills to work closely with developers and consultants, agreeing on technical solutions for road layouts, junction designs, footpaths, cycleways, drainage, and street lighting, while ensuring compliance with national and SCC guidelines.
Additionally, you'll provide highway advice to planning colleagues, contributing to the discharge of planning requirements and further expanding your skillset

You will need, This role is within the Transport Strategy Team, part of the Growth, Highways, and Infrastructure Directorate of SCC. The Transport Strategy service is responsible for delivering Inclusive growth as it applies to Transport in Suffolk. You will also work closely with colleagues in the SCC project management, planning and highways teams who support delivery of NSIPs.

to ideally be an incorporated engineer or have significant experience in a relevant field or project management
- to be experienced in civil engineering, preferably with experience of using highway design guidance such as the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and UK standards
- to be able to demonstrate technical ability and an understanding of the use of plans and drawings
- knowledge of national highway engineering design guidance and specifications
- understanding of Construction Design Management (CDM) and Health and Safety Legislation
- to be passionate about working in a team seeking sustainable engineering solutions
- some knowledge of highway planning particularly with respect to NSIPs would be an advantage.

£38,223-£40,008 per annum (pro rata for part time)
- 37 hours per week - Flexible working options available
