Full Job Description

We are recruiting for a Technical Apprentice to join the Components team within Beeston, Leeds.

Reporting into the Production Manager, the Technical Apprentice will assist with completing New Product Development tasks, creating initial specs and completing testing and complete sample requests.

Core Hours: Monday - Friday, 39 hours per week

The Technical Apprentice will undertake and complete an apprenticeship with an outside provider, whilst receiving mentoring and support from their line manager and wider team.,

  • Undertake and complete product testing on current products (pre/post roll pack testing, Larson testing, Compression testing, etc).

  • Test and determine the outcome of quarantined wire buckets.

  • Test and determine the outcome of quarantined external and internal spring sheets.

  • Monitor current production on machines to ensure products are running to specification.

  • Assist with annual quality audits.

  • Problem solving root cause analysis.

  • Undertaking capability studies on key process parameters

  • Machine pass of trials and sign off


  • During the Apprenticeship, you will learn to:
  • Where to obtain the necessary job instructions, inspection/quality procedures and product specifications that are used, and how to interpret them

  • How to identify which samples, products and materials do not meet the quality requirements

  • Procedures for the handling and segregation of defect components

  • Specific safe working practices and environmental regulations that need to be observed.

  • Carryout inspection and testing activities using the specified methods and equipment

  • Prepare, Handle, transfer and store samples safely and correctly in accordance with quality control procedures

  • Accurately interpret the data/results gained from the inspection and testing procedures being used

  • Record and report inspection findings to relevant person

  • Use Mini Tab for data analysis.

  • Use tools and techniques for problem solving.

  • Use SPC and control charts to monitor processes.

  • Monitoring Machine capability

    Skills & Experience required:

  • Minimum GCSE STEM subjects (Grade C/5 above or equivalent) - Willing to undertake competency exam if not achieved.

  • Willingness to learn is key

  • Ability to self-manage your time during the working day and to work independently

  • Inquisitive and methodical
