Full Job Description

Within the Thermal Hydraulics Group, you will be responsible for assessing the performance of the primary and secondary reactor circuits and process control systems, considering how that may affect the design and operation of our nuclear power station. This may include:

  • Providing temperature, pressure, flow and process control assessments to optimise performance and operational compliance of the reactor, core, boilers/steam generators and whole plant systems and individual components.

  • Supporting safety cases and technical programmes where oversight of thermal-hydraulic steady-states and fault transients are key aspects.

  • Problem solving with the aid of simulation tools, control system design packages & mathematical plant models.

  • The work in the main provides plant operational support, and thus requires a high degree of cross-functional working and close collaboration with other departments and the power stations.

Do you have a strong Engineering background with a deep understanding of Thermodynamics, within Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow? We're seeking an individual with a passion for nuclear power station System Analysis, with added experience in System & Plant Control.,
  • A degree (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant STEM (Engineer / Physicist / Mathematician) discipline, with a mix of technical and practical skills.

  • Ability to translate engineering issues into theoretical assessments and practical solutions.

  • The problem-solving nature of the work requires a high degree of lateral thinking capability.

  • Self-motivated, dependable, to steer work/projects to timely completion.

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in collaboration with others.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly, confidently, and concisely.

  • You may also have the following:

  • Knowledge of Automatic Control Theory.

  • Experience with the UNIX/LINUX operating system environment.

Do you want to be part of building one of the largest and most complex projects in Europe, help with the continued success of generating low carbon electricity from our nuclear plants, and secure the decommissioning our older power stations? Do you want to help Britain achieve net zero?

  • Opportunity…

At EDF we operate a fleet of Advanced Gas-cooled Reactors and a Pressurised Water Reactor at Sizewell B.

We are building two new nuclear reactors at Hinkley Point C, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes. We are making preparations for the construction of two further reactors at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

We are currently recruiting for a Thermal Hydraulics Engineer / Analysist, to become part of the Thermal Hydraulics Group in Nuclear Services.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has a background in plant dynamics & control system design, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, steam or thermodynamics who is keen to apply their experience in a nuclear energy context.

    Pay, benefits and culture…

Alongside a starting salary from £54,391 (negotiable depending on experience), we offer a competitive benefits package, including a company pension scheme and a wide range of flexible benefits to suit your lifestyle.

At EDF, everyone is welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We're committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We also support social mobility.

We're a disability confident employer and we'll do all we can to help with your application, making adjustments as you need.

We'll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.
