Full Job Description

The Warehouse Operative role is part of a wider Warehouse Team that ensures the accurate and timely provision of customer orders on behalf of Rapid. The Warehouse Operative is expected to undertake general warehouse duties within all the various warehouse process paths that operate on site, covering Goods Preparation, Bin-Fill Replenishment, Picking and Packing orders, with the number one priority of ensuring all orders are despatched effectively and efficiently each day.

Key Accountability

Warehouse Operatives are responsible for ensuring orders are picked and packed in line with our high-quality customer service standards. They are also responsible for replenishing bins when new stock arrives, whilst adhering to FIFO requirements for picking and storing stock, and also to ensure that any goods received are promptly processed, inspected (where necessary), and available for picking and packing in a swift manner. Accountable for ensuring a high standard of housekeeping is kept at all times across all areas of the Operations departments, and ensuring all Health and Safety policies and instructions are followed at all times.

Picking Tasks

  • Pick orders on a daily basis in accordance with the order details (product locations, product codes, quantities etc) and place into the correct order tote

  • Ensure all processes are followed for orders that require short picking, picking into Jiffy, re-reeling etc

  • Follow all manual handling training advice whilst picking, and using assistance tools and vehicles where necessary

  • Ensure all steps are taken to prevent product damage, such as bubble-wrapping glass, placing liquids in a bag, mounting pins into foam


  • Packing Tasks
  • Use experience and initiative to select the appropriate box(es) and void fill for each order processed.

  • Manually pack all goods.

  • Complete and apply the appropriate carrier label and transfer of goods to the Despatch area

  • Undertake to develop skills in other warehouse roles as reasonably required by the Company

  • Prepare packages for export, using experience and knowledge to apply the correct packing requirements and to complete the relevant paperwork.

  • Ensure that supplies of products are replenished from Goods Inwards stores (packaging)

  • Undertake processing UK Mail items and update the system accordingly and assist in loading the vehicle with packed items (UK Mail Despatch).

  • Process despatches by Royal Mail by preparing and completing electronic and any other relevant paperwork.


  • Bin-Fill Replenishment
  • Efficiently replenish stock locations in the warehouse with goods which are placed onto appropriate receiving pallets by the Goods Inwards team.

  • Adhere to FIFO rules when replenishing stock locations in the warehouse, ensuring that newly replenished products are placed behind older stock.

  • Adhere to all health and safety precautions whilst replenishing the warehouse locations, including, but not limited to, the safe use of pallet trucks, only storing pallets of goods in designated areas, and safely storing liquids and glassware to minimise damage.


  • Goods Preparation
  • Receive all goods to the premises and reconcile these deliveries to the purchase order and update the host system accordingly.

  • Physically manoeuvre deliveries to the goods inwards workstation.

  • Sort and break down deliveries and check the quantity and quality of received items to the minimum frequency required.

  • Complete supplier return processes and documentation in the event of identifying faulty or incorrect deliveries and to update the host system accordingly.

  • Investigate and solve any problems or issues arising from the delivery of goods e.g. where deliveries do not reconcile with the purchase order, by liaising with all necessary internal teams and the suppliers.

  • Receive all Company post.

  • Sort items for Pre-Shelving received externally.

  • Refer unresolved matters to the Warehouse Supervisor for further support and advice.


  • Prepare goods for the Warehouse as required. Assist with the pre-packing of goods.

  • Assist with the process of returned goods (RMA's).

  • Record product weights and dimensions.


  • Perpetual Inventory
  • Ensure all stock accuracy is of the highest priority

  • Investigate stock discrepancies between WMS and Epicor

  • Investigate order discrepancies between WMS and Epicor

  • Investigate daily incomplete picks

  • Resolve stock situated in Receiving location queries

  • Identify and fix suspended Orders and POs, and identifying the root causes


  • Check QUARPF stock Investigate any open shipments in Epicor

  • Complete regular cycle counts on WMS to ensure accurate stock levels, and report any major discrepancies

  • Continuous stock maintenance
