Full Job Description

Y Prentis is recruiting Apprentice Groundworkers to work in Bridgend. The successful candidates will undertake a 2.5 year apprenticeship, spending four days on site and one day a week with The Construction Hub in Barry studying towards a City & Guilds Level 3 in Construction and Civil Engineering Operations. The course will cover a range of subjects, including:

  • Installing drainage in the workplace

  • Moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace

  • Establishing work area protection and safety in the workplace

  • Preparing and operating specialist

  • Construction Processes and Operations for Low-rise Domestic Buildings

  • Construction Methods and Techniques for Low-rise Domestic Buildings

  • Construction Drawing Techniques

  • Laying Domestic Drainage


  • On successful completion of the 2 and a half-year course, there will be the possibility of progressing onto Plant Machinery Operation licenses.

    Y Prentis is a construction based shared apprenticeship scheme operating across south-east Wales. Funded by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and Welsh Government, we provide people across the region with apprenticeships while they study at college towards an NVQ or diploma in their relevant trade.

    Y Prentis is the first apprenticeship company in Wales to be awarded the We invest in people apprentices accreditation, by Investors in People, following our successful inclusion in their pilot phase which was rolled out in November 2020. We have also been awarded Platinum status, which is the highest accolade available, demonstrating our commitment to achieving performance excellence in the services we provide to the construction industry.     As an Y Prentis apprentice, you will earn £236 per week (37 Hours) in your first year and national minimum wage for apprentices in your second year.
