Building a sustainable tomorrow

BAM Nuttall are seeking a CAD Engineer to join us on a major project at Devonport Royal Dockyard in Plymouth, Devon where we are refurbishing the Royal Navy dockyard. The successful candidate will be self-motivated and possess at least 2 - 3 years experience in design, able to check and validate drawings/models to and from the Client while acting as a support function between site and Document Control.

Due to the nature of work at Devonport, BPSS/SC level of security clearance is required, only candidates holding NATO member passports can be considered and must have lived in the UK for more than 3 years.

  • Your mission

    As a CAD Engineer, you will be responsible for the following:
  • Act as a subject matter expert for the production of drawings, and provide technical support to personnel as and when required.

  • Ensure that all drawing work is carried out in compliance with ISO 19650, BAM and CAD standards.

  • Provide Drawing production training, both to the team members and to the supply chain.

  • Provide support to the Document Control team to review Drawings before submitting to the client.

  • Understand the hardware and software requirements on the project and communicate with the BIM Lead and Project Information Manager.

  • Represent the company where necessary at internal and external meetings.

  • Maintain high safety and environmental standards in accordance with company policies and report any inadequacies.


  • Who are we looking for?

  • Able to collaborate and work effectively within a multidiscipline and diverse team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Have good understanding of civil/structural design and principles.

  • Have a strong background in producing drawings.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD.

  • Able to train and mentor site engineers and others in line with CAD standards.

  • Prior experience of ProjectWise and Revit beneficial but not essential.

  • Knowledge of ISO 19650 (Level 2 BIM).

  • Degree in related discipline (Civil Engineering, Architecture, etc.) is preferred.
