Full Job Description

Based in Havant (with the option for Hybrid working) this role works in the interest of safety and security of supply chain and contributes to the overarching compliance remit associated with
maintaining AEO Status.

The Customs Control Analyst serves as one of the interface for all customs related aspects associated with the transfer and depositing all import/exports into and out of the UK.

  • The Customs Control Analyst is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in support of the corporate compliance effort and HMRC legal obligations required to account for goods entering and leaving the customs control within the UK.

  • They will provide daily operational support to all LMUK programs from a Customs Compliance perspective (e.g.: clearance of goods and shipments) as well as ensuring the successful delivery of projects ensuring the technical excellence and practical/business driven approach is taken.

  • Support the planning, co-ordination and execution of any special trade and duty optimization programs identified for projects and programs across the business.

  • Work closely with the Customs Control Lead and the Trade Compliance Manager in external stakeholder relationship including customs agents.

  • Support the management of UK specific tariff classification support for all programs as well as educating, training teams where needed on globally followed classification processes. Demonstrate practical and theoretical understanding of Harmonized System Nomenclature, GIRs and Explanatory Notes of WCO along with how to interpret Section, Chapter, Subheading, Additional Section Notes of the Tariff. and their importance to achieve and maintain compliance. In addition, influencing and educating cross-functional teams of the importance of Customs Compliance.

  • Here we can emphasize the importance of full practical and theoretical knowledge on carrying out a correct Tariff Classification utilizing understanding of Harmonized System Nomenclature, GIRs and Explanatory Notes of WCO along with how to interpret Section, Chapter, Subheading, Additional Section Notes of the Tariff.

  • Support the Customs Control Lead and the Trade Compliance Manager in successful implementation and usage of the new Customs Declaration Service (CDS). Support the wider Trade Compliance team with applicable import and export control document codes and support the relevant compliance project to acquire a database of applicable regulatory measures and their interpretation as part of the current requirements for the UK's Customs Declaration System.

  • Support the decision making on the preference for freight movements and meet savings objectives to achieve the best and most efficient route to effect delivery or transfer of goods.

  • Conduct auditing on the HMRC Management Support System trade reports and collaborate with the Finance Department on Customs related reporting, such as CDS Deferment Certificates.

  • Conduct thorough reviews of system and stock anomalies, diligently identifying discrepancies, and proficiently initiate the process of raising Post Clearance Amendments in collaboration with our HMRC Supervising Office.

  • Effectively oversee Customs Compliance inputs within our Duty Management System and Asset Management Request, ensuring seamless adaptation to the new requisites mandated by the national Customs Declaration System.

  • Provide support for the customs control of all imported F35 (Lightning) goods into the Global Spares Pool including managing the record keeping support and accountability for deposited goods into and out of the F35 Customs Warehouse.

  • Accountable to the F-35 (Lightning) Freight Control and Shipping Officer for coordinating and management of all Compliance related evidence which shall be presented to HMRC or Government Compliance visits.

  • Supporting Customs Compliance audits with HMRC related to our AEO/Customs Warehousing (F-35) and other program-specific Customs processing regime (if applicable).

    Customs Practitioner (Institute of Export) Level 4 (desired), level 3 minimum combined with at least 4 years' experience within the customs area of expertise.

  • Proficient knowledge of customs procedures, specifically under the Union Customs Code (UCC), aligned with UK Customs Regulation and Procedures governed by HM Revenue and Customs.

  • Strong working knowledge of Tariff Classifications

  • Strong analytical capabilities, adept at reporting statistics, and skilled in auditing import and export activities to safeguard business interests. Intermediate proficiency in Excel is essential.

  • Proven ability to contribute to the development of innovative solutions for complex problems, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

  • Understanding of Customs Special Procedures, coupled with practical expertise in Inward Processing and Customs Warehousing. Practical knowledge of the Management Support System (MSS) data.


  • Preferred Skills:
  • Theoretical or/and practical knowledge of the principles of Rules of Origin and Customs Valuation (Valuation Methods) is an advantage

  • Understanding Customs Special Procedures and practical knowledge of Outward Processing, Transit, Temporary Admission is desirable

  • Experience with Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) accreditation and its conditions, processes and procedures
