Full Job Description

To assist the Team Manager in the management, development and leadership of the social work team in order to safeguard and promote the welfare of vulnerable children, young people and their families.

To ensure the team delivers high quality services that address need and lead to improved outcomes, whilst managing the reputation of the Service and the Council.

To deputise for the Team Manager when required.
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:

DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE
FOR, 1. To ensure the Council meets its statutory obligations to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, complying with legislation, statutory guidance, policy and procedures and relevant frameworks.

2. Under the direction of the Team Manager provide leadership and professional expertise to the social work team ensuring a high standard of service delivery.

3. Assist the Team Manager in the recruitment, induction and training of team members.

4. To provide support and supervision for specified team members on a planned regular basis in line with the Supervision policy. This includes conducting annual Performance and Development Reviews and ensuring development plans are implemented.

5. Jointly prioritise and allocate work within the team with the Team Manager ensuring that children and families receive a timely and efficient service.

6. Assist with ensuring the maintenance of the performance of the team against agreed targets and performance indicators via regular and effective monitoring and analysis. To ensure that all team members are kept fully informed of the team's performance and are enabled to contribute towards improving performance.

7. Assist the Team Manager in the effective management of sickness absence and under-performance in accordance with the Council's HR policies and procedures.

8. Assist the Team Manager in the management of complaints.

9. To ensure that health and safety policies are abided to within the team.

10. To undertake audits of cases and quality assure front-line practice on a regular basis to drive continuous improvement and enhancement of social work practice.

11. To deputise for the Team Manager as and when required.

12. Assist in the planning and delivery of team development days, team meetings and training events.

13. Ensure that client information data is lawfully gathered, accurate, up to date and only divulged in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation 2016 (GDPR) and the local government common law of duty of confidentiality. Failure to apply these duties can lead to the individual or the Council facing financial penalties or court proceedings.

14. Actively engage in risk management policies, procedures and practice and to advise the Team Manager of resource shortfalls and recommend improved methods of working where appropriate.

15. Develop effective collaborative working partnerships, internally and externally, in order to meet the needs and achieve positive outcomes for vulnerable children and young people.

16. To foster and promote innovative best practice within the team and the service as a whole.

17. Model effective communication skills within the team, the service and communicate effectively in highly charged or challenging circumstances.

18. Model inclusive practice in relation to identity and diversity, challenging any issues of concern.

19. Take responsibility for developing and maintaining the required management knowledge and professional expertise for the role through Continuous Professional Development.

20. Take responsibility for obtaining regular professional supervision to ensure effective and reflective practice.
21. Prepare and participate in Performance and Development Reviews, identifying areas for improvement and carrying out agreed learning and development opportunities including using research to inform practice.

22. To effectively manage allocated workload by appropriately prioritising tasks and through efficient time management.

GENERAL

The successful applicant for this post will need to be an experienced Deputy Team Manager in Disabled Children's Service, they must have an in-depth understanding and awareness of the oversight of processes required for Court of Protection work including assessing for Gillick Competency Mental Capacity Assessments and Best Interests meetings. They must effectively support the team and Team Manager.

The aim of the Disabled Children's Service is to work in partnership with disabled children and young people, their families, and carers to enable them to have the best opportunities in life.
The Disabled Children's Team is a specialist social work team responsible for the assessment of disabled children and young people up the age of 18 and the provision of information and the packages of support to meet their assessed need.
This service is over and above that provided as part of universal or targeted services. The majority of families do not need a social worker and their needs are met by receiving support through universal or targeted services. At times these provisions may not be sufficient to meet the child or young person's complex needs and additional support may be required.
Person centered thinking and planning is at the heart of the service.
The team provides both a social work and care management service. This includes working with children and young people and their families in need, child protection inclusive of child protection planning, pre proceedings and care proceedings and supporting Children Looked After
Our aim is to work in partnership with children, young people, their parents and carers and other professionals to provide support when it is needed.
The team works in partnership with Education, Health, other Social Work teams and Short Break providers to ensure good outcomes for children and young people are delivered.
