Full Job Description

The Design Engineer will work as part of a team to design the more complex LV and HV overhead line and underground diversion, reinforcement, asset replacement, refurbishment, maintenance, network referrals and clearance issues on the Electricity North West's Wood pole, Mural wiring and underground networks.

As part of this team you will be responsible for producing approved designs that meet ENWL policies and industry specifications.

An emphasis will be placed on carrying out overhead line Refurbishment, Maintenance, and Asset replacement projects.,

  • Managing the design phase on plant, multi vector, UVA and reinforcement schemes as well as the Overhead line maintenance and refurbishment projects requests from Engineers to ensure that design work packages are delivered on time;

  • Being responsible for the creation of scheme documentation, and when necessary the creation of design drawings using our mapping and data collection systems;

  • Using our asset management tools, interrogate and analyse the collected overhead line data and progressing the works in conjunction with the Design Technicians into a fully constructible project;

  • Working closely with our Design Technicians and Work Planners to prioritise all aspects of Maintenance; asset replacement and refurbishment works;

  • Presenting schemes and processing the financial approval.

    A minimum of HNC level qualification in Electrical Engineering (essential);

  • A sound understanding of the principles of planning and design from LV up to and including 11kV;

  • A high level of understanding of secondary network protection, embedded generation, interface to the 33kV systems design issues;

  • Experience of design, planning, costing and project managing work on small projects;

  • Knowledge of the company's' financial processes and National and Company Technical Specifications;

  • Responsibility for the management of the design phase of programmes of work and design accuracy of individual projects, including re-scoping and justifying cost variations to planned projects during construction;

  • Capability to perform on-site surveys or earthing tests, some of which may be in remote locations and on uneven terrain such as country roads and fields;

  • Competency in the use of CAD, and / or the company's drawing packages (essential);

  • Accountability for the delivery of own work to time, cost and quality and for design accuracy of individual projects;

  • Self-motivation with a pro-active approach to problem solving (essential);

  • A full, valid UK driving licence (essential).
