Full Job Description

Octavius Regional Civil Engineering are proud to have been awarded the Highways Term Service Agreement to deliver highways improvement schemes across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole for BCP Council. The contract, started in June 2023 and will run for 4 years. The work requires the construction of numerous highway and cycleway improvement schemes across the conurbation including:

  • General highway improvements

  • New or layout modifications to existing traffic signal junctions

  • Installation of new or modifications to existing controlled crossing sites (Pelican, Toucan, Puffin, Parallel, Sparrow and Zebra type)

  • Road Safety Schemes (including Traffic Calming, Speed Restriction Zones)

  • Urban Realm and Streetscape Improvements

  • Cycling Schemes, including new on-road/off-road infrastructure, signage and cycle storage/parking

  • Highway accessibility schemes

  • Bus Priority Improvements including bus stop improvements, Inspires and motivates site team to work together to complete the project, even when under pressure.

  • Takes personal responsibility and is happy being held accountable for your work and the contribution it makes to the success of the wider project.

  • Sets a high benchmark for the safety and quality standard expected on the project and leads by example.

  • Meets targets set by own manager and is focused on developing capability further.

    General Operatives - with demonstrable experience of working in construction

  • Skilled Operatives - with CSCS cards that demonstrate their competence

  • Supervisors and Gangers - with SSSTS qualifications, A Civil, Structural, or Construction background, ideally on National Highways or local authority networks.

  • Have worked on a broad section of disciplines such as groundworks, RC structures, steelwork, and building and can demonstrate a clear understanding in these areas.

  • Understanding of interpreting construction drawings and plans.


  • Qualifications:
  • CSCS card

  • IOSH Managing Safely or SMST


  • All applicants must have a valid UK driving licence and ideally live in close proximity to Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole or Dorset.

    Most of the work is carried out during weekdays, 07.30 to 16.30, with some opportunities for overtime at weekends on some schemes, depending on programme and location. Night shifts are rare. The team have an office at Queens Drive in Bournemouth where staff need to be able to get to and from every day.
