Full Job Description

This is a non-teaching role focused on supporting pupils in the classroom. This will involve building strong supportive relationships with the pupils, working closely with the class teacher, assisting in planning and adapting learning activities, leading small group activities. We are a small, friendly village school dedicated to improving outcomes for all children and providing first-class pastoral and educational support for all, including those that find traditional teaching environments more challenging. We are looking for an experienced, empathetic, compassionate and motivated member of staff who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and equal opportunities for all.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Support children in their personal development and progress through school by providing encouragement, rewards, advice and guidance, induction.

  • Help develop positive learning behaviours, working collaboratively with the class teacher.

  • Support children to be successful in our school and beyond, All paid positions which involve working regularly within academies are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. You must declare all convictions (including convictions with Absolute Discharge), cautions or bind-overs you may have, even if they would otherwise be regarded as 'Spent' under this Act and where applicable any disqualifications under the Childcare Act.


  • The amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are 'protected' and are not subject to disclosure to employers, and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Disclosure and Barring Service filtering guide.

    This role involves working with children on a daily basis and is therefore in regulated activity.

  • Experience of working in a school or a similar environment.

  • Ability to adhere to working procedures and policies within the school environment.

  • Good oral and written communication skills.

  • Patient, flexible and adaptable, meticulous and conscientious.

  • Ability to manage your own time effectively.
