Full Job Description

Are you a Maintenance Technician looking to join our fantastic team here at Heartwood Collection? We are looking for an experienced, multi-skilled maintenance technician to work across our estate of 35 sites to ensure our facilities are kept operationally functional and our sites are maintained to the highest standard.

Reporting to the Head of Maintainance you will be responsible for providing an efficient and effective Maintenance service to Heartwood Collection sites, across the company estate, planning and delivering a high-quality building fabric maintenance program. Ideally, we are looking for someone based in around Hampshire Area, as we already have most other area of the estate covered by our existing team.

Following our investment from Alchemy Partners last year, we plan to almost double our estate by adding more pubs as well as entering the pubs with rooms market to complement our already industry-leading portfolio.

Maintenance Technician - Key Responsibilities:

Carry out repair works as directed by the Head of Maintenance, Maintenance and Facilities Administrator and Unit Manager, making the best use of time, facilities and maintenance systems to provide the most efficient and effective service to the units.

  • Plan your own labor time within your allocated schedule to ensure localised problems are prioritised and managed effectively.

  • Where necessary assist the Maintenance and Facilities Administrator in identifying appropriate sources of equipment and parts to deliver a fast and quality service.

  • Ensure work orders are only taken via the Heartwood Maintenance Team or the onsite Heartwood Management.

  • Apply technical knowledge to evaluate, assess, and identify solutions for specific maintenance problems referring only non-routine/key problems to your line manager.

  • Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and by training received.

  • Ensure compliance for all necessary Permit to Work Systems and safe systems of work.

  • Ensure that all work is carried out using best practices and concerning the Health and Safety procedures of the site and to operate within the Risk Assessment process.

  • Demonstrate teamwork to ensure the complete maintenance service provided to the business is high quality and delivered promptly where cooperation with others is required to complete the work.

  • Undertake additional duties in line with capabilities as required.

  • Cope with some heavy lifting and by risk assessment under Manual Handling Regulations (e.g. of boiler equipment), working at heights and/or in confined spaces.

  • Understand and complete all work-related documentation accurately and on time.

  • Record appropriately any cost related to the purchase of equipment, and materials for any single work.


  • Review and analyse maintenance faults to identify repeat issues and make recommendations for continuous improvement to ensure trade impact is minimized.
  • Apply skills and knowledge to identify and recommend opportunities to improve routines and processes specific to your area of work.


  • Maintain all company equipment and tools in good working condition to ensure they are available for use at all times.

    Assist the Maintenance Manager and colleagues within the rest of the business to deliver added value to the unit managers through good communication about the detail of unit maintenance requirements.
  • Participate in good communication with the other team members, the management team, the customer's staff, contractors, and suppliers to maintain good working relationships.


  • To adopt an approach of continuous improvement and right first-time ways of working to ensure the reduction of equipment/building fabric faults and customer service downtime.
  • Ensure timely reporting using the company processes and access to Maintain CAFM system.

  • Record work attended and completed.

  • Record the nature of the work done and the materials used.

  • Notify your line manager of proposed holidays and absences.


  • Support and check the maintenance of the unit issues flagged under 'odd jobs' on Access Maintain as part of the unit visits.

  • Good all round handyman skills in carpentry, plumbing, painting and decorating, electrical, bricklaying and tiling.

  • Proven skills in solving building fabric faults.

  • Have an understanding of the maintenance requirements of Building Services assets associated within a multi-site hospitality and catering environment.

  • Prepared to attend training programs to develop skills.

  • Flexible as travel to other regions is required with overnight stays.

  • Time management to ensure projects are completed on time.

  • Ideally will have an NVQ Level 2 or City and Guilds in building maintenance, electrical, plumbing, carpentry & joinery or equivalent/relevant qualification.

  • Previous building/building maintenance experience.

  • Experience in dealing with pub/restaurant work environments.

  • Previous customer service experience in a maintenance delivery role.

  • Be highly motivated with the ability to work independently or in a team environment

  • Have a positive "can do" attitude
