Full Job Description

As a member of the Horsham Operations management Team, managing Clinical and Commercial Primary & Secondary Packaging Operations, building working relationships ensuring operational excellence, high employee engagement across shifts and high service delivery. Working with people leaders and SMEs, developing a talent pool ensuring a high level of operational knowledge is developed, shared, and retained. The continuous identification and implementation of operational best practice through the iteration with cross site and inter-site teams. Maintain well-defined Communication and Engagement model to ensure employees understand the performance of our business and individual contribution towards its delivery.,

  • Manage the clinical & commercial packaging operations workload and resources to ensure that quality and delivery timelines are achieved. To establish Key Performance Indicators for the section and to monitor performance against these taking appropriate actions where these are not achieved.

  • Support the Operations Management team in adherence to department critical metrics and Client specific requirements.

  • Ensuring optimum utilization of all available clinical & commercial packaging facilities & resources, whilst ensuring quality and safety are continually maintained to Thermo Fisher high standards.

  • In line with company procedures to recruit, train and develop staff ensuring that resource levels meet business plan requirements. Developing and empowering staff; establishing relationships; putting staff in a position to succeed, meeting their personal career goals while also achieving strategic business goals; building effective teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals; driving engagement and crafting a climate where staff are motivated to do their best.

  • Monitors and evaluates the performance of the group and generates annual and mid-year performance reviews for all direct team. Undertakes all line management tasks for direct team.

  • Establishes, delegates, and supervises tier reviews, departmental projects, process improvement, objectives and initiatives through to completion.

  • Leads key departmental improvement projects, support regulatory & client audits or other Operations leadership representation roles as required.

  • Leads, plans, runs, and coordinates activities critical to providing products that meet quality specifications and are produced at optimum production cost.

  • Ensures accurate response and methods are used on all situations that may occur to minimize downtime.

  • Ensures all production operations and equipment are controlled, validated, and in regulatory compliance and appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and batch record documents exist and are followed and reviewed regularly.

  • Manages budget targets, while providing production with adequate resources and personnel to meet demand as laid out in production schedules and plans. Evaluates production efficiencies, variances, and procedures on a continuous basis for process improvement.

  • Accounts for ensuring Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) compliance of manufacturing operations to include operating procedures.

  • Incorporates Lean Leadership into daily work and into the organization to include Visual Management, Stand-Up Meetings, Gemba Walks, and Leader Standard Work

  • Undertake ad hoc duties as directed and agreed by the Senior Manager, Packaging.

    Higher Level or Equivalent in Science or Business Management

  • Strong operational management experience

  • Experience in highly regulated environment (MHRA, FDA, ISO9000 and GxP)

  • Strong communication skills

  • Able to work in both ambient (15-25) and cold environments (2-8C)

  • Management/Supervisory/Team Leader experience of a team(s) of 10+ people

  • Worked within an operational environment - i.e. manufacturing, warehouse, factory, packaging, production line, or a similar setting ideally with relevant experience of commercial and clinical trial packaging.

  • Ability to recruit and manage staff to achieve business objectives. Able to prioritise team workload and to ensure others meet timescales.

  • Able to analyse problems and define solutions.

  • Able to work under pressure and to support others within the team.

  • Flexible and adaptable with strong operational management skills

  • Lean SixSigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt) preferred

  • Understanding of levers to impact key performance indicators
