Mental Health Research Nurse | South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust

The Research Nurse will join the Improving Black Health Outcomes (IBHO) project at King's College London, which aims to recruit >5000 individuals of Black or African ancestry. This project aims to generate the knowledge needed for better healthcareand to improvehealthcare outcomes for the Black community in the UK. The project is a collaboration between King's College London, NIHR Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre, King's Health Partners, NIHR BioResource, and Genomics England. As a Research Nurse, you will play a crucial role in conducting theresearch, leading onrecruitment, and working with our clinical and collaborating partners to maximise community engagement.

The post holder will be a member of the South London and MaudsleyNHS FoundationTrust Research and Development Team and will be managed on a daily basis by the research team but will have a line manager in the Research Team at the Trust.

They will ensure that any research undertaken safeguards the well-being of the patients and is conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trial) Regulations 2004 and Amended Regulations2006.Inconjunction with the other members of the team, they will facilitate the production of high-quality research.

It will also expand their own knowledge of practice through supporting the delivery of researchstudies taking place withinthe trust. Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the IBHO research team to design and implement research protocols and studies focused on Black health outcomes.


• Recruit and screen potential research participants, ensuring compliance with ethical guidelines and obtaining informed consent.


• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, scientists, and other healthcare professionals, to facilitate data collection, analysis, and interpretation.


• Act as a liaison between the research team, participants, and relevant stakeholders, maintaining clear and effective communication., Clinical:


• Responsible for screening and recruiting for the Improving Black Health Outcomes (IBHO) study.


• Carry out the planned care required by the clinical trial protocol for patients and volunteers without direct supervision


• To support patients to make informed choicesconcerning their involvement in research.


• Ensure that written informed consent from a participant has always been obtained for any research taking place within the Trust.


• Maintain all data and case report forms relating to clinical trials in accordance with the regulatory and governance environment for NHS research.


• Report any deviation from research protocols to senior staff and implement agreed changes to the care programme.


Management:

• Required to use own initiative, take responsibility for decision-making and prioritise own workload within a team and individual context.


Administration:

• Ensure that nursing practices comply with Trust policies and procedures.


• Communicate effectively at all times and maintain a harmonious working environment.


• Maintain a safe environmentin accordance withthe Health and Safety at Work Act.


• Assist in ensuringthe availability of resources for participant care.


• Ensure the economicaluse of resources


• Maintain accurate documentation in clinical trial documents and patient notes.


• Ensure that clinical trialsare effectively archived asrequired.


Education and training:

• Assist in the education and support of health care professionals to enable them to care for clinical trialpatients andrecruit for clinical trials where appropriate.


• Maintain an up to date knowledge of research related topics particularly related to clinical trials.


• Assess the needs of participants, relatives and carers andprovide them with informationas requested.


• Educate participants,familyand those who volunteer for clinical trials before, during and after clinical studies and investigations.


• Assist the R&D Nurse Manager in orienting all new staff to the department.


• Act as a role model, mentor and preceptortothe nursing team.


Other:

• Understand and adhere to Trust policies and procedures.


• Maintain patient confidentiality and standards of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) at all times.
