Full Job Description

Due to our increasing work throughout the UK, this is a full-time role for an experienced Hydrogeologist to work from our offices in Durham. The successful candidate will manage projects and will be responsible for liasing with our clients and associated stakeholders. Working as part of a wider team, key site and office-based activities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Liaising with and supporting clients with complex water management problems.

  • Preparing licence and permit applications relating to water, and liaising with key environmental regulators such as the EA and SEPA.

  • Preparing detailed reports such as Temporary Works Water Management Strategy Reports and Hydrogeological Impact Appraisals.

  • Reviewing Site Investigation data to develop conceptual models for a site, which summarise the key hydrogeological conditions.

  • Developing Pumping Test Designs and undertaking analysis.

  • Undertaking Groundwater and Surface Water Modelling, using in-house and

  • commercial software.

  • Design of Temporary Groundwater Control Systems.


  • Design of Temporary Surface Water Management Systems.

  • Undertaking Water Features Surveys.

  • Undertaking Field Pumping Tests.

  • Representing OGI at online and site meetings.About you

    A Postgraduate Degree in Hydrogeology is preferred. However, someone with a postgraduate degree in Engineering Geology, or a minimum 2:1 Honours Degree in Geology or Civil Engineering would also be considered for a similar role, provided they have experience in the fields of Hydrogeology or Water Management.

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience working in the construction industry or similar field.

  • The ability to work directly with the client, and reliably manage multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously. The candidate will be the main contact to OGI clients on the projects which they manage.

  • Understanding of Environmental Legislation relating to Water Management.

  • Experience working in the field or on a construction site, with the ability and interpersonal skills required to represent OGI during site or technical meetings.

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to drive to site and occasionally work away from home during the working week.

  • Ability to work in a team, building productive relationships with colleagues and clients.
