Full Job Description

As a Residential Childcare Worker for Eden Care Homes, you will be key to improving the lives of the children and young people we care for and support. You will be hands on, providing direct care and support to improve children's lives and young people's skills for independence. You will be required to provide weekly reports relating to the content of your support for each young person and liaise with other professionals such as social workers and health professionals., To assist the Manager in the delivery of a quality service and to meet the assured needs of children and young people., o To work with children and young people according to the individuals needs, providing focussed work as planned and directed.

o To assist in the co-ordination of activities within the home and ensure that they are well managed and produce safe and consistent care.

o To be involved in and organise activities which are in the best interests and meet the needs of those looked after.

o To ensure that the procedures for the security, monitoring, administration and control of medication is followed. Undertake training to achieve competency in specialist procedures.

o To assist the Home Manager in encouraging children to follow their own religion and cultural beliefs.

o To contribute to ensuring that the physical, emotional and identified primary care needs of the children and young people are met through the development and maintenance of a supportive and caring environment.

o To establish positive relationships with the children and young people and assess their needs. To also work closely with Social Care with the implementation and delivery of Care Plans/Pathway Plan and Residential Action Plans.

o To support and develop the mental and physical health and wellbeing of children and young people in Local Authority Care

o To provide effective safeguarding of children and young people in Local Authority Care

o To refer to the appropriate manager immediately upon any suspicion, evidence or allegation of any concern, especially in relation to incidents of violence or child protection issues, in accordance with safeguarding procedures.

o To communicate professionally and effectively with children and young people, team members, professionals and other stakeholders

o To maintain and update all required recordings, with particular reference to daily running records for children and young people files.

o To be aware of the current legal, professional and administrative practices and procedures that apply within the Residential Children's Home. In addition to keep abreast of development within the sector including, but not limited to, policies and legislations, children's home regulations and the quality standards and confidentiality and data protection.

o To act as a Key Worker for a specific child or young person as and when required.

o To provide life skills and development activities that builds independence, and confidence of children and young people.

o To contribute to the provision of a positive, welcoming and stimulating environment for the children, visitors and stakeholders. This includes domestic duties and light maintenance of a family home or independent accommodation.

o To uphold the Equality and Diversity policy and maintain health and safety standards.

o The service operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, therefore it is a requirement of the post that you undertake sleeping in duties and take part in a duty rota.

o To carry out any other reasonable duties as required by the Duty Manager.

o To assist the Home Manager in organising and delegating responsibilities to all staff, and planning a duty rota, including sleeping-in duties for staff.

o To promote professionalism at all times.

o Training & Development

o Contribute to 'In-House' staff development and training programmes e.g NVQ

o To encourage the culture of flexibility and team working amongst the workforce and be prepared to work in other homes if required.

o To contribute to Service Group projects as directed.

o To assist the Home Manager in carrying out the Home's administration, e.g submitting accounts, ordering supplies, maintaining records and compiling reports for planning meeting reviews and other meetings as appropriate.

o To follow the payroll/personnel related administration processes and operate according to guidelines.

o To report any deterioration in the condition of the premises to the Manager and arrange for any maintenance work as directed.

o Ensure security of the House, including contents, confidential records, cash, keys, furniture and equipment, residents' clothing and possessions.

o Health and Safety

o To assist the Home Manager in ensuring the safety of residents of the home, including organising regular fire drills.

o To assist the Home Manager in attending to the health of the children, arranging medical and dental examinations, and maintaining high standards of hygiene within the home.

o To understand and operate within the Authority's Health and Safety Guidelines and Manual, including best practice in food handling.

o To ensure that Health and Safety standards are met.

o Be conversant with emergency and evacuation procedures.

o To be an effective role model for other members of staff.

o Participate in training courses as arranged and undertake professional training if the opportunity is offered though secondment.

o To work flexible hours including: weekends, bank holidays; be available to sleep in if required, according to the needs of the service.

o Observe confidentiality at all times in relation to the Home and its residents, recognising the vulnerability of the residents.

Qualifications: N.V.Q. Level 3 in Health & Social Care or level 4 in Chidlren's Residential or willingness to work towards, o To enjoy working with children and young people

Salary: £24,000 - £26,000 (base salary) depending on experience & qualifications plus £60 sleep in rate per shift.
