Full Job Description

Reporting directly to the Marketing Director, Oncology for the UK, the Senior Brand Manager's primary role is ensure the successful launch of a new oncology drug in the UK. They will drive the execution of the pan European Launch Strategy including development and implementation of pre-launch and launch marketing strategies and tactics within the UK, as well as specific initiatives and projects in support of successful pan-European commercialization in Oncology.

Within their role, following the launch they will be instrumental in leading and coordinating cross-functional efforts in order to drive the operationalization of brand strategy in the UK including the implementation of marketing activities in close collaboration with the UK wider commercial and medical teams as well as the European marketing functions.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Acts as ambassador for the overall Oncology marketing strategy with focus on cross-functional collaboration and the operationalization of marketing activities

  • Develops and delivers marketing promotional items that best suits customer needs for all brands in close collaboration with the wider UK commercial and medical teams as well as the European marketing functions

  • Proactively identifies emerging new customer needs and translates them into tailor-made solutions and relevant initiatives using both qualitative and quantitative data.

  • Supports the analysis, planning, execution, sharing of best practice, and insight generation related discussion in order to understand the breadth of insights, potential impact, and to encourage cross functional dialogue

  • Develops strong relationships with identified target customers on the basis of trust and perceived added value to the customer in the form of personal expertise and the ability to help customers to solve problems and achieve their objectives

  • Inputs and leads the development of UK launch strategies and objectives as needed

  • Actively participates and inputs into the cross functional business meetings

  • Facilitates the development and implementation of the overarching UK Oncology business & marketing strategy (budget & tactical plans) in close collaboration with the wider UK commercial and medical teams as well as the European marketing functions

  • Drives the cross-functional brand planning and budget process (including the definition of CSFs and KPIs)

  • Accountable for the management of costs versus budget for agreed projects

  • Ensures the right level of support for the customer-facing roles (CFR) (e.g. materials, digital programs, CRM rigor, enabling support)


  • Planning and Support:
  • Take personal ownership for maintaining an expert understanding of all relevant clinical information for Daiichi Sankyo Oncology brands, competitors and therapeutic areas

  • Supports the development and drives the implementation of a tactical customer-centric stakeholder engagement plan for the UK in alignment with the wider UK commercial and medical teams

  • Drive development and implementation of marketing programs, training (in collaboration with the UK training lead) and initiatives. Ensure review and approval of campaigns through Medical/Compliance

  • Proactively seek to understand competitor activities, strategies and programs in the area of product marketing and ensure that this competitive intelligence is shared broadly within the organization

  • Proactively monitor relevant activities within the UK and adjusts the engagement plan as needed to achieve the overall objectives

  • Is able to analyse complex sales and market data and discern trends/ input into forecast

  • Partner up with European Congress Management functions and align cross-functionally in coordinating activities with external focus at key events

  • Responsible for coordination of national congresses - in close collaboration with other functions, in particular, Medical Affairs, Sales, Compliance etc.- and for the establishment of a rolling congress plan for the UK

  • In close collaboration with the Medical Advisor, drive identification of scientific/commercial materials required to effectively conduct scientific exchange

  • Ensures that all activities, processes and materials are ABPI compliant. Takes personal ownership for maintaining a high ongoing level of ABPI code understanding and expertise

    Experience of launching a new drug in the UK from pre Marketing Authorisation through to driving uptake post Marketing Authorisation

  • Strong understanding of the NHS across the UK

  • Demonstrable experience of designing highly effective marketing tactics across a variety of channels, including integrated digital solutions

  • Ability to analyse complex data and gain relevant insights

  • Experience of pro-actively driving and leading the brand planning process

  • Demonstrable experience of accurate budget management showing effective ROI on core tactics where appropriate

  • Strong project management skills and the ability to lead without authority

  • Broad knowledge of medical affairs, market access and pricing/reimbursement functions and inter relationships.

  • Hands-on in style, willing to 'pitch in' to get things done.

  • Aptitude in influencing, gaining consensus, and overcoming resistance by presenting a powerful case for implementing new initiatives.

  • Excellent team working, communication, engagement and presentation skills

  • Ability to work with minimal guidance and supervision

  • Ability to juggle a demanding and varied workload and manage across a matrix environment

  • Competent user of Microsoft Office software products

  • Full driving licence


  • Desirable
  • Previous experience of working in Oncology and/or medicines funded by Specialist Commissioning

  • Previous experience of working in an alliance with another pharmaceutical company

  • Launching brand(s) through the NICE Technological appraisal process

  • Proven knowledge of Key customers and key influencers in Oncology in the UK

  • Degree level education (or equivalent) preferably life sciences

  • CIM qualified

  • ABPI qualified

  • Experience of working as a sales representative in a pharmaceutical company in either primary or secondary care
