Full Job Description

  • Surface Preparation: Prepare the site for tarmacing by clearing debris, levelling the ground, and ensuring proper drainage. This may involve using hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery such as excavators or compactors.

  • Material Handling: Assist in the transportation, storage, and handling of asphalt or tarmac materials. Load and unload materials from trucks or other vehicles as needed.

  • Mixing and Application: Prepare asphalt mixtures according to specifications, using hot mix asphalt (HMA) or cold mix asphalt as required. Apply the asphalt mixture to the prepared surface using shovels, rakes, and mechanical spreaders, ensuring even coverage and proper compaction.

  • Repair and Maintenance: Repair damaged or deteriorated asphalt surfaces by filling cracks, potholes, and other defects with appropriate materials. Use patching techniques to restore the integrity of the surface and prevent further damage.

  • Traffic Management: Set up traffic control measures to ensure the safety of workers and the public during tarmacing operations. This may include installing cones, signs, and barriers to redirect traffic and create safe work zones.

  • Quality Control: Monitor the quality of tarmacing work throughout the project, ensuring compliance with specifications, standards, and regulations. Make adjustments as needed to achieve the desired finish and durability.

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing tarmacing duties. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe work practices to prevent accidents and injuries.

    Experience in tarmacing or similar paving work preferred.

  • Knowledge of tarmacing techniques, materials, and equipment.

  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy machinery safely and effectively.

  • Physical fitness and stamina to perform manual labor in outdoor environments.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

  • Valid driver's license may be required for some positions.

  • Relevant certifications or training in tarmacing or construction industry standards may be advantageous.
