Full Job Description

You are invited to apply for the full-time post of Laboratory Technical Assistant to work as part of the team that provides technical support to the School of Biological Sciences teaching activities. This role typically includes assisting in maintaining laboratory infrastructure, disposal of waste and to assist with maintaining stocks of laboratory resources and consumables.

The ideal candidate will have an interest in Biological Sciences, working in a lab environment and an appreciation of hazards in the workplace. The candidate must have a willingness to work with a variety of waste streams (chemical, biological and recycling), to adhere to specific cleaning protocols and be able to assist in the cleaning, calibration & maintenance of a range of common basic laboratory equipment. The candidate should be competent at using common computer packages, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

The School of Biological Sciences technical team is an adaptable, proactive, and hardworking team and the ideal candidate should have a good range of soft skills that will complement the team's work ethic.

As part of the team the post holder will play an important role in providing general laboratory support to the delivery of practical classes at the School of Biological Sciences whose courses include Biochemistry, Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Ecology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology and Zoology.
